Washington DC Day 1

Monday, September 10, 2018

We spent 4 days in DC. I am going to post each day’s activities separately.

We stayed at a campground 25 minutes from downtown DC. We drove our van into the city and parked in an underground parking garage. This was  the view as we exited the building and onto the street in DC.

We were watching the hurricane out in the Atlantic and wanted to get all the monuments in before the rains came. So we visited as many monuments and memorials as possible on Monday. It only drizzled so we made it around town until 9:00 pm.

Reflection Pool heading towards the Lincoln Memorial

Lincoln Memorial

Looking back from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument

The White House

The National Christmas Tree…it looks like it is missing the top. They decorate it up in the season and you never notice it.

We were famished and tried to find some food. We found pizza…fancy pizza (0: at The Hive.

Jefferson Memorial

Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial

This one is for you Uncle Joel!!

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial

This was etched in the wall. Thought it was very true.

Korean War Memorial

Memorial honoring the local Washington residents who died in World War I.

More buildings as we walked through town.

All kinds crossing the streets. There are lots of people walking all over the place.

Lincoln Memorial at night

Washington Memorial

The fountain outside the building we parked in. We were totally bushed by the time our first day was done.

  1. Paul and I went to DC in 2007 and walked our legs off!!! I think the Korean War Memorial was my favorite. We were only there 3 days and there is so much we never got to see. Glad you posted all these photos because many of them are what we missed. Would love to go back sometime.

  2. Carol, even being there four days wasn’t enough. We probably could’ve done four more days and still not covered it all.
Hi to SweeTea and Sidney from us. Oh and you and Paul of course. (0:

  3. Love th Uncle Joel pic! Brings back great memories for me and you are making so many for your crew. Love it.
