Washington DC day 2

Tuesday September 11, 2018

Once again we drove into DC (as opposed to taking the Metro) parked underground and started walking in DC.

We noticed all the flags being flown at half staff this day. We assumed it was because it was 9/11.

We started out at the Capitol Building. As we walked, we came across this albino squirrel.

Next we went to the Library of Congress. There is much beautiful tile work in there.

We saw the Gutenburg Bible

The Library of Congress doesn’t just house books, it houses many valuable historic treasures. There are even baseballs and jerseys in the baseball display room.

We were in the map section and Jeremiah discovered that one of the display cases was unlocked!!

It housed an old book on cartography. He alerted one of the attendants who called for assistance and then stationed himself there.

We teased Jeremiah that he saved a national treasure!! (0:

Next we visited the National Museum of the American Indian.

After that, we visited the United States Botanic Garden. It’s a huge garden and most of it is indoors.

By this time we were pretty hungry, and although we had a lunch packed in the trunk of the car, it was a long walk back to the parking garage. Instead, the boys located a Subway nearby and we stopped for subs. Thankfully, the subs in DC cost the same as a Subway anywhere else.

By this time the museums were closed so we walked around the memorials again.

Arts and Industries Building

Smithsonian Castle

At sunset, we were at the Washington Memorial once again. The cloudy skies made a neat sunset.

Donald got the crazy idea to bring the laptop out to the monument and we watched the American Ninja Warrior Finale right there. The weather was very comfortable and it wasn’t raining.

We were very disappointed that none of the ninjas made it to Stage 4.

One last picture at the Washington Monument.

  1. WDC – a great place to visit! Reminds me of my trip there with Kristin and Ryan before one of the Indiana family reunions. Great memories!
