Final day. The weather has held out for us. Hurricane Florence has really had no effect on the weather in Washington DC, much to our delight. We did carry umbrellas just in case.
We came out a different side of the parking garage building this time and as we walked to our destinations we passed the Trump Hotel.

We went into the National Archives to see the Declaration of Independence (which is displayed in four cases, with a guard standing on either side), The Constitution and the Bill of Rights. There is no photography allowed. The documents are getting hard to read as they haven’t always been so carefully cared for as they are now.
We also stopped to see the Magna Carta which was a document written to limit the powers of law of King John of England and protect the rights of the feudal baron in the year 1215. Our forefathers fashioned our country’s Constitution after the Magna Carta.
We then headed to Subway for lunch. After lunch was the first time we split up to see different museums.
Donald, Jeremiah, Audrah and Jedidiah went to the art museums.
Suzie, Jeshuah, Josiah and Kyrah went to the Air and Space museum.
At the Air and Space we saw many vehicles of flight. The attendant there told us that the ones hanging in the entrance were all the “real” things. Only the ones that couldn’t return without being burned up were either backups or replicas.

Here are a few pictures from the Art Museum

We did a crazy thing and WALKED to Arlington National Cemetery. It was 2.5 miles.

They have the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on the hour and on the half hour. We just missed the 6:30 one and the cemetery closes at 7:00 pm. We went ahead and walked all the way to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and sat there quietly and watched the guard.

Much to our delight, they had the 7:00 guard changing and we were allowed to stay.

Our last photo from the tomb before heading back. We had three more miles of walking ahead of us!!

We ended up between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial and took our last photos there before heading back to the parking garage.

Oh friends! I love the tomb of the unknown soldier. I love that you all got to see it totally empty without tons of crowds. 🙂 Love being able to follow your travels!
I am thoroughly enjoying your day by day adventures from my air-conditioned room, not having sore feet! It is fun to view what you are experiencing each day:-) Love and miss you all!
