Today we drove to the city of Anadarko, OK it was a very pretty drive to get there.
Lots of rolling hills and even some small canyons. The town of Chickasha, where we are staying, is the remnants of an old buffalo wallow.

Really liked this one with the cows on the ridge.

Anadarko is the Indian Capital of the Nation.

The first museum we came to was closed, so we went to the American Indian Hall of Fame. The volunteer there, Carol, was a retired history teacher with a wealth of information for us. There are many busts of Indians from many different tribes.

Some indoors and many on a nice walking path outdoors.

Anadarko has these bison spread out all over town. You can do a scavenger hunt to find them.

We tried to visit the Wichita Tribal History Center but it too, was closed. We checked out the lodges outside though.

Always a ninja obstacle to be found.

We headed over to the Anadarko Heritage Museum.

It is a very small museum next to the railroad tracks.

This is an old drinking fountain. The black bucket held ice so the water would be chilled as it ran through the pipes.

This is an interesting piece of artwork, It is weaved human hair.

These were wedding dresses. Because a dress worn once was deemed wasteful in those days, a bride’s wedding dress was made to be worn again and again,

Indian outfits.

Baby Indians were carried on their mother’s back in a cradle board.

Little girls then, like now, acted like little mothers…hence these child-sized cradle boards were made for the little girls to carry their babies around in. (0:

This piece of artwork is made entirely of beads!!

You’ll notice some of these types of medals worn by the Indians in the busts above.

Moccasins

We found this amusing in the bathroom(0:

We headed to a small soda shop in town for lunch called the Soda Fountain Eatery

After that, we walked for a little in downtown.

First we visited the post office where they have some murals on display.

Then we walked to the courthouse to find the Doughboy statue. If you don’t know what a doughboy is, read here (it has nothing to do with Pillsbury biscuits).

Of course, the boys found ninja obstacles.
We found a few more bison statues on our way out of town.

Back at the Portillo’s house. Just love the big sky here in Oklahoma….you can see sooooo far!
