Today we had to drive into Oklahoma City to unlock a compartment on the motor home for them to be able to do the repairs needed when the part comes in tomorrow. We had been wanting to see some of the places on the historic Route 66, so since we were heading north already, we took the opportunity to go a little further north to see these places.
We drove first to a little town called Arcadia, Oklahoma.
First we drove to a little gem kind of out in the middle of no-where. It’s a garage on the side of the road with no advertising. When you pull in, you see the garage off to the side with lots of “stuff”. Once you start looking around you start putting together that this is all memorabilia from the Route 66 era.

This reminded us of our old yellow bug. (0:

The owner, Mr. John Hargrove, is in his 70’s and he is very active. Presently he’s working on a car in his shop.

If you’ve seen the movie CARS, the Cozy Cone motel was fashioned after this motel that had teepee

Jed really liked this one…

Notice how high up the VW is…

Mr. John has so many cool stories, you could spend weeks with him!!

Mr. John told us of an actual strip of the original Route 66 that runs parallel to the highway near his place so we took a drive down it.
Next stop was the Round Barn.

The acoustics in the top are cool.
This canner made Suzie laugh. So happy to have more modern canners these days.

This was a cool looking cactus.

Then we headed down the road to POPS. It’s a gas station/small diner that sells over 700 different kinds of soda pop.

They have a 66 ft. tall lighted soda pop bottle out front. Unfortunately, we went during the day and didn’t get to see it all lit up.

For a late lunch, we headed to Ann’s Chicken Fry House. It was decorated in retro style. Food was pretty good. We got to sign the walls too.

After lunch, we drove through Oklahoma City to see some of the landmarks on old Route 66.

Tower Theatre

This little store sits in the middle of the thoroughfare in downtown OKC.

After a long day of running around, we headed back home for dinner of ribs and chicken that cooked in the smoker all day long. YUM!!
