Serpent Mound Ohio

Tuesday, May 21, 2019

Today we drove into Ohio a couple of hours to see Serpent Mound. Donald says he had read about it decades ago and has wanted to see it since then.

We drove through some really pretty hill country.

We stopped at a Taco Bell/KFC for lunch. Thought the light fixture was kinda neat. A replica of a bucket of KFC chicken.

To form this mound the Indians manually dug and moved the dirt to form this serpent shape. No one is sure why they did this. This article gives a little info. This mound is built in a 5-7 mile meteor crater.

You can climb this observation tower to get a good look from above the ground level.

After seeing from the tower, we walked alongside it on the sidewalk.

This platform takes you to the edge of the crater.

You can see how far down it drops off.

There were some neat plants there too. This one looks like a satellite.

Donald saw this wild rose bush and said he remembers one his mom had like it.

We visited a small museum there.

Indian tools.

This leaf had some unusual thorn looking spikes.

We walked a trail there too.

We were amused when Josiah coined the term “mow hawk” for this little sliver of grass that got missed by the mower. (0:

Went back to the motor home for supper. Oil filter on the motor home needs replacing so they are planning to do that tonight.
