When I think of Kansas, this is what comes to mind:

What doesn’t come to mind is canyons!

We are at Lake Scott State Park.

It has a lake that sits in the middle of canyons.

Ninjaing at the lake snack bar.

There is a pueblo in the campground.

We were told that there is a bison herd across the road from the campground so we drove out there. They were way out in the pasture so we decided to walk along the fence to try to get closer.

These are not the typical dark brown bison. They are mottled light brown and white.

We took a 2-3 mile drive to a historic site nearby. It is called Punished Women’s Fork.

The last battle in Kansas between the Northern Cheyenne Indians and the US Army occurred on this site.

Here is the den the women and children hid in.

Kids had a blast climbing on all the rocks.

Can you find the three big boys in the picture?

Can you spot Jeshuah and Donald? (hint, they’re not standing together).

Kyrah collected a bunch of rocks as we walked along the paths. We liked the variety of colors she found (yes, we did leave them behind (0: ).

Audrah likes taking pictures of flowers.

We went back to the motor home for lunch. Afterwards, Donald and the three big boys went hiking in the state park.

When they returned, we went to see Monument Rocks. These are some chalk pyramids in the middle of pasture lands and grain fields.

Bunches of fossils just lying on the ground.

Same with seashells. Makes you think there once was a great flood here.(0:

Fearless…

You can see the miles and miles of green pasture around these rock formations.

Some type of swallows. They had multiple hanging nests on the rocks and were feeding.

Donald wanted to stay for sunset. Sun sets at 9:05pm! He gets credits for these pictures.

Got back to the motor home in the dark. Ate supper around 10pm, then we all went to take showers since we had walked through all that tall grass this morning.
