Cerro Cabrillo & Montana de Oro

Wednesday, October 30, 2019

We had two places to visit today, both within less than a half hour of our campground.

First was a trail in Morro Bay State Park called the Cerro Cabrillo. It is a hike to the top of another morro (like the big rock yesterday) but this one isn’t in the water. There is a range of these morros along the coast. This one was a 2.3 mile, out and back trail. It wasn’t too bad for the first 2/3. But the last third wasn’t for the faint of heart! Lots of steep, slippery sandy hills and then at the top, scrambling over rocks. It was worth the view though.

Getting nearer to the top.

That hike took about three hours. I (Suzie) had to slide down on my rear end as the trail down was just too slippery and steep for my knees to handle. I had to throw away my jeans as I actually wore a hole in them sliding down that rough rock!!

We then headed over to Montana de Oro. Another state park that has rocks and beaches.

The rocks look like fingers stretching out into the ocean.

The layered rock is neat to look at.

Come walk with me…

Neat how the waves flow up in the fingers of rocks.

We sat a while and watched a couple of surfers out on the water for about a half hour while Kyrah and Audrah looked for shells and Jeremiah and Jedidiah played a rock throwing game…they were trying to throw rocks into a small pool of water down below. Then we headed over to the beach area. That is Jeremiah’s head you see on top of the large rock.

A pretty cave-like area.

Look at how smooth these rocks have been made by the waves.

Looks like seaweed drapes.

We stayed for sunset.

Then we headed to Sylvester’s Burger joint.

We were not disappointed! Burgers were tasty and they had great sweet potato fries!
