We have reservations at the McDonald Observatory for this evening’s Star Party. They set up telescopes to look into the heavens.
On the way out of the town we are staying in, we stopped at a ghost town.

Saw a dead coyote in the rocks. He looks like he is curled up sleeping.

On the way to the observatory, we decided to stop at Fort Davis for a couple of hours. Click here for some history.

It is the best preserved fort in the US. Buffalo soldiers were housed here.
In the barracks

Coffee anyone?

This fort had a hospital.

We got back to the visitor center at closing time so the ranger had the kiddos help her take down and fold up the flag.

Then we headed to the observatory.

First the ranger showed us different constellations using a laser. Then we walked around and looked through several telescopes pointing at different things in the sky. We looked at the moon, cosmic cheerio, andromeda galaxy, double star and several cluster stars.
Then we drove several hours to a Walmart for the night.
