Roan Mountain

June 14-18, 2020

We continued on to Roan Mountain after leaving the cabin. Sunday, 14th.

This is why they call them the Smoky Mountains.

 

 

 

The rhododendrons were starting to bloom on the top of the mountain.

 

 

Monday 15th

Roan Mountain

When we arrived, the fog was so thick you could see nothing.

 

 

We decided to hang around and see what might happen.

 

 

 

The wind shifted and started blowing the fog away.

Thought this looked like something was creeping through the bushes and making them move.

 

 

Orange azaleas, a rarity.

Walked some more of the Appalachian trail.

 

Tuesday 16th

Grandfather Mountain

 

Very foggy and rainy today.

 

 

 

 

After a couple of hours it cleared up a little. We visited some animal exhibits.

Found some rocks to climb. This is called Split Rock.
