Monday the 24th
Moving on to Canyonlands National Park.
As we drove across I-70 we passed the famous Ghost Rock rest area.

An early-day rancher gave this rock
formation the name “Ghost Rock” one day
when fog obscured the base and gave the
crown the appearance of a ghost floating
in the air. Because it often stood out in
bad weather, the Ghost Rock was an
important landmark for stockmen.

This picture taken at Ghost Rock reminded me of a scene in the movie “CARS” where the inhabitants of the abandoned town of Radiator Springs on Route 66 could see the interstate snaking away and taking all the visitors away from their little town.

There are leaf cutter ants here!

This road along the edge of the cliffs!!! YIKES!

We drove to see the sunset at Grand View Point Overlook.

This is such a cool view!

We were not disappointed!

That tiny speck on the rock in the middle of the picture is Donald.

Tuesday the 25th
I like looking at all the different shoeprints in the sand.

The rock out here is simply incredible!

Remember that road I mentioned before that wound around and down into the cliffs? Well, we drove down it in the minivan!

Down at the bottom

Yep, we drove back up!

More cliff edge views

Cool pass through the rock

Wednesday 26th
Newspaper Rock

This time we headed to the Needles part of the park which is a different entrance further southeast.

We had some ladders to climb on our hike.

Beautiful view of a storm.

Nice view of the Needles

We had to use these…

to get up here

to this rewarding view.

There are some major rocks here!

Another smashing sunset.
