Happy Veteran’s Day. Thanks to all those that have and still do serve our country in the armed forces. Thanks for serving our country!!
We were driving in Kentucky and saw signs for Lincoln’s birthplace and turned around to go visit.
Abraham Lincoln was born in a log cabin on the land his father owned called Sinking Spring named after a spring on the property.

The spring is still there.
Steps to the spring.

At the visitor’s center is this display. A veteran made this portrait of Lincoln out of pennies.

The replica of the cabin is kept in this building. With a Ranger keeping watch over it.

Many of the National Parks and National Forest host the Junior Ranger program. Each place has their own booklet of activities. When the child finishes the required number of pages, they can turn it in at the ranger station for a badge or patch unique to that park/forest.
One of the pages was identifying a variety of leaves. So while we hiked the trail, we collected leaves.

We then drove to Alabama to our campground, Cullman Campground.

Love your blog! I remember when our great Uncle Loran & Auntie Vi took us there when we were kids. He was a big history buff & still typed letters to the editor in his 80’s. It was a special trip.
Suzie, I have a great mac cheese with cauliflower, spinach, ham recipe from lady in NZ I will send you next email. Cooked on top of stove til 5 min under broiler at end.
Thanks Diane. I’d like that recipe next time you have a chance. (0:
