Our plans for this day were to go to the WWII Museum in downtown New Orleans. When we got there to go in, we found out they didn’t accept our Smithsonian Affiliate membership.
So, we didn’t go.
We walked out on the street and were discussing what we could do instead.
A nicely dressed gentleman approached us and asked if we needed some direction (guess we looked like lost tourists). (0:
He suggested we ride the streetcar and told us that a day pass was $3 a person and that you get that pass right on the streetcar.
History lesson (from the norta website):
New Orleans residents and visitors alike love the St. Charles line which travels from the edge of the French Quarter all the way down beautiful St. Charles Avenue, then onto tree-lined South Carrollton Avenue.
The views of historic architecture beneath the shade of massive, ancient live oaks convey so much New Orleans charm and character. The line also passes by celebrated restaurants, shops, and hotels. The original line dates back to 1835. Each green and crimson “Perley Thomas” streetcars, first appearing on the line in 1923, is a National Historic Landmark. In so many ways, a ride on the St. Charles streetcar is a ride through history.
So, we thanked him and headed to the streetcar car stop to await the next car.

We hopped on and rode down St. Charles Ave. Large, stately houses and their equally stately live oak trees line the roadside.

We hopped off the streetcar at Audubon Park where the live oak trees are breathtaking!! The kids climbed to their hearts’ content.

There were exercise areas along the path. Definitely a challenge for ninja kids.

and ninja dads…

There was a bird island there too.

Liked the bird songs.
At the end of the park was the grandaddy of the trees. The Tree of Life they call it. Believed to be close to 300 years old. It is an awesome climbing tree.

Here’s a short video of the trees nearby the Tree of Life too…each is grand and majestic!
We hopped back on the streetcar and rode it to the other side of town to walk to the river and get some lunch.

Riverwalk

We ended up in a mall food court that was right on the Mississippi. Got to watch boats while we ate.

Couldn’t resist this photo.

We decided to take the streetcar for one more ride…this time it was getting dark.

We topped the evening off by working out at NOLA Muscle Park.
Thank you Hai and Edgardo for a great evening.
