We got up this morning (after being up late watching the meteor shower) to go on a bird walk. The state park we’re staying at hosts bird walks in the park.
So we met up by the big old oak and a husband/wife team, who have been bird-watchers for 30+ years, who led us and another lady out for 2.5 hours of birding.
We got to see whooping cranes several times along with grackles, sparrows, killdeer, sand pipers, kingfisher, caracaras, buzzards and sandhill cranes.
Josiah took this through the man’s scope. Most of the birds were a ways off so they were only seen really well through the scope and binoculars. This is a crested caracara also called a Mexican Eagle.

After that, we packed up, cleaned up and headed out to our next destination. It’s about a 4 hour drive to Austin, Texas to Mckinney Falls State Park. We will be visiting Suzie’s cousins this weekend.
The drive was a lot of work for ‘Donald as the winds were really blowing us all over. Winds are 15-25 miles per hour. There is so much land in Texas!!

Kids do their schoolwork as we drive. Jedidiah is working on Roman Numerals in his math. Kyrah is starting her high school Physical Science course. Audrah is working on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. Jeremiah is moving on to American History since passing his American Government CLEP test last week. Jeshuah and Josiah continue their college courses. Donald’s job is moving us from point A to point B safely. We’re definitely having a good time as we wander along.
JRR Tolkein said, “Not all who wander are lost.”
I like that.
