Today, we woke up to some bright sunshine and warmer temperatures. So, we decided to find a beach. Jeshuah found Mustang Island about an hour away. Mustang Island used to have wild mustangs but they are no longer there today. You can read a little history of the island here.
We packed our lunch and headed out.
We had to cross a ferry to get to the island. We stayed in the car while ferrying.

While we were in line waiting to board the ferry, we saw these giant windmill blades in a manufacturing yard. They are incredibly long and are moved by a semi truck. A very long semi truck.

This island was hit hard last summer by Hurricane Harvey. There is rebuilding going on to restore it.

Here you can see the sand dunes across from the water.

We took a picnic lunch and ate before we started playing.

Catching some sunshine and vitamin D.

The crazy ones got in the cold water and played in the waves.
The sand was good for making castles.

We thought it was cool how the sand dried quickly when one would dig their hands under it.
Audrah found this tiny crab and put it in a shell.

Thought it was odd to see a speed limit sign on the beach. People do drive on it.

A good view of the dunes.

We took a walk out on a jetty. The whole thing was made of HUGE granite rocks.

Got some good splash shots.

One of Donald’s hidden talents. He can simultaneously write his name backwards and up-side down. In opposite directions! Give it a try and let us know if you can do it too.
Jeremiah obviously inherited this talent from dad.
Audrah found a wounded butterfly.

Jeremiah being….Jeremiah.

Ninja obstacles on the beach (you knew they were coming. (-: )

It got rather windy and we finally decided it was time to leave. You can see the gusts in this video.
We stopped on the island to grab supper at Whataburger before getting back onto the ferry to cross back to the mainland.
Got home and hung around playing games and doing a little schoolwork. We were waiting for the moon to set so we could catch the meteor shower. The sky was perfectly clear. Unfortunately, the wind was really blowing hard making it too cold to sit outside for long periods of time. So we bundled up and stayed outside in 20-30 minute groups of time and then went back in to warm up. Around 11:30 pm was the best viewing with the moon gone. We were in a campground that had no streetlights and there were hardly any other campers there so we just put chairs in the road and some laid down on the street and we watched. It was worth it! We saw several meteors every minute. We were remembering with Jeshuah and Josiah back in 2001 when they were really little (three and two years old) and we took them up on the roof of our house in Florida to watch the winter meteor shower. They both remembered doing that. In fact, Josiah thinks that is his earliest memory of his life.
Sorry no pictures, it was too dark. (0:
I think we finally got in bed around 1am. It was totally worth it.
Did you get to watch it?
Great adventures! I didnt even know about the meteor shower until this morning but it has been raining in Sanford so we wouldn’t have seen anything. We were planning on going to FL tomorrow but we had a leak in the roof this week after the snow. Fortunately it was fixed by yesterday. We’ll stay home to make sure the fix is good. Maybe we’ll try to head down to FL after Christmas or in January. Miss you.
