Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park

We headed to Hinton, Oklahoma for the day. I still cannot get over how far one can see here.

We stopped at a neat little museum called the Hinton Historical Museum. It is a hidden Oklahoma gem.

Art Peters is the curator and he is a wealth of information. If you are ever in OK, make the effort to get out to this museum. The admission fee is nominal.

There are old cars, telephones, newspapers, a barbed wire collection, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, bicycles, switchboards, books, Bibles, medicine in old glass medicine bottles, carriages, farm equipment, scales and memorabilia from the area and a whole lot more.

He also is an archaeologist, he digs sites nearby of old wagon train campsites for artifacts. He has many objects on display that he himself has found, excavated and cataloged in this little museum.

He requested no photography so we haven’t any pictures to show what he does have in there. He did allow us to take a picture of him though so you can have a little peek of the museum behind him.

After that, we headed to Red Rock Canyon.

Mr. Art (from the museum) has excavated many artifacts in this park and gave us a map that pointed us to an area where there are definite wagon wheel ruts still in the sandstone dirt from settlers driving through with their horse-draw wagons.

The park has some beautiful red canyons.

Jeremiah was the first to climb up the big rock.

Yes, he made it all the way to the top safely.

The rest of us went up a back way that was much easier.

Audrah and Leah braiding the long grass.

Can you see the Indian woman carrying her papoose?

These tree roots are pretty neat.

Can you find Donald? Hint: he’s wearing a navy shirt.

Josiah took this one.

Free ice cream

Found a nest with baby birds in the rocks.

Ninja tricks

This was a very pretty place. It used to be a state park but they were going to close it down. A group of people took out a 25 year lease on the property so they could keep it open. So glad they did.

On the drive home, we stopped to help some ladies with a flat tire.

After supper, the kids roasted peeps over a wood stove fire.

Yes, that is a donkey on the back porch.

It was a full, fun day.
