First off Happy Birthday Nannie!! (Suzie’s mom)

Today we drove in to Nags Head to do some sightseeing. We saw the Bodie Lighthouse on our way. It has been raining for two days now and the skies are overcast and the roads are partially flooded.

Some good NC friends drove several hours to join us for the day.

Jennifer and her girls met us at Jennette’s Pier around 1 in the afternoon.

We checked out the aquariums inside and then walked out on the pier.

We saw a surfing contest going on at the beach below. Also saw a man catch a stingray on his fishing pole.

This is definitely a good suggestion for those of us that like to sit on benches.

Gotta ninja

Then we headed to the Wright Brothers Memorial at Kill Devil’s Hill.

Orville and Wilbur’s dad brought home this “bat”. When they saw it fly across the room, it intrigued them and planted the seed of flying.

Working on their Junior Ranger books.

Outside the visitor center there are four markers. One where each of the four flights landed on that famous day.

Memorial up on Kill Devil Hill.

At the top

Each panel of the door represents a story from early aviation history.

Looking back at the airstrip from atop the hill.

Getting their Junior Ranger badges.

We headed to supper at a local pizza place and then to grab some donuts at Duck Donuts a donut chain started in the town of Duck, NC on the Outer Banks. I forgot to get a picture of them…but they tasted good.

Jennifer and the girls wanted to go to the beach so we headed south towards our campground. The Bodie Lighthouse was on our way so we stopped for a few quick photos.

Ninja-ing

We walked out on the beach when we got to the campground. Saw sparkly sand. It is bioluminescent which means it glows in the dark. When you scrape your feet across it or stomp on the sand, it produces greenish sparkles. I couldn’t get a good picture of it but there are sand fleas that are glowing as well.
