Yellowstone and Grand Tetons, Wyoming

Saturday, September 14, 2019

We began the day by driving into Yellowstone from the West Entrance.

YELLOWSTONE FACTS:

  • Yellowstone National Park, is the largest geyser field in the world and home to half of the world’s active geysers, in nine geyser basins. Over 1200 geysers have erupted in Yellowstone with an average 465 active in any given year.

  • The world’s tallest active geyser is found in Yellowstone. Steamboat Geyser in the Norris Geyser Basin can erupt to a height exceeding 116 m (380 ft). Yellowstone is also home to the world-renowned Old Faithful Geyser. It erupts on average every 94 minutes for 3-4 minutes.

These mud pots kind of “burp”.

Geyser facts.

Saw some bison

This one would empty, then fill back up, bubble and overflow and then do it all over again.

The blue colors are so amazing!

Feeling a geyser popping.

Old faithful

After walking around the geyser basin on the boardwalk looking at other geysers, we watched Old Faithful from the opposite side from the first time. This time we mostly saw the steam and not the water but we were showered with the water droplets as the wind blew towards our direction.

After Old Faithful we decided to drive south into Grand Teton National park.

Snake River winds through the park.

This is one of my favorite pictures. The mountains in the background,  grassy plateau that sharply cuts off to the river and then a forest of trees on the other side of the river.

Saw elk.

And bison…

The jagged silhouette is so appealing to look at.

Water and mountains, a lovely mix.

How many Lewises can you find?

Our first ever sighting of a glacier!! There are actually two on the Grand Teton Mountain. See the box below the photo that points them out.

Ninja-ing

Sunset was beautiful.
