Big Sur Pacific Coast Highway 1

So we started south on Hwy 1 in Big Sur.

Our first stop was a pull out on the side of the road. Turned out to be Garrapata State Park. We followed the trail down to the beach and rocks below.

Big rocks and big splashes…

As we wandered around the rocks, we discovered caverns and crags.

Seaweed palm tree???

Neat how this succulent plant drapes over the rocks and even more pretty when in bloom.

At times, we had to time our running around the next rock with the tide…

More caves

Bull kelp makes a great toy.

This piece was over 75 feet long (and was broken).

Bull kelp is also good for jumping rope.

Or carrying around like a firehose.

We drove and pulled out at pretty places for photos.

Big Sur Lighthouse out on a huge lava rock. You cannot go there but they say it is still a working lighthouse.

This is perplexing…cattle ranging on land that butts up to the ocean cliffs. These bovine have no clue that they have a million dollar view.

Way above the ocean.

McWay waterfall.

Notice that the water doesn’t flow into a stream or river after it hits the sand…it just gets soaked up by the sand.

There was a lady painting the waterfalls.

Lastly, Bixby Creek Bridge. One of the most photographed bridges. In lots of car commercials.
