Pacific Coast day 2

Monday, October 27, 2019

Started out today at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve.

As soon as we stepped out of the car, we could hear the sea lions barking out on the beach. We took a short hike from the parking lot around a large rock to the ocean and there they were, sunning themselves out on a large rock in the water.

We also could see whales spouting and slapping their tails on the water!!

This was neat, the waves shoot out of the hole in the cave.

Climbed on some rocks on another trail.

Took a trail in the woods to see this 1,000 year old cypress tree named Old Veteran growing on the side of a cliff.

Then we headed further south to Pfeiffer Beach. It is known for its keyhole rock and purple sands.

The two tiny figures on top are Jeremiah and Jeshuah.

Purple sand

It comes from manganese garnet in the hills being eroded and washed down the creek to the beach.

Kind of cool how the wave crashes through the keyhole.

Trees on the beach.

Curious what happened to cause all this turmoil in the rocks. What could it tell us about God and the Flood?

How did it get all twisted about?

Boys climbing big rocks.

Dad climbing big rocks.

The view from up top.

Climbing down barefoot…Jeremiah.

We then headed to Partington Cove. Its trail head is right off the side of the road and if you don’t know what you’re looking for, you could definitely miss it.

It’s a bit of a steep trail but short.

We took a wrong turn and ended up in a smaller cove.

Got back on the trail and found the right one…the one with a tunnel that led to the cove.

Kids found a red spotted sea star and mussels.

Lots of mussels!

Purple sea urchin, green sea anemone and mussels with barnacles.

Jeremiah doing stick it or lick it…

Hiking back.

Our last stop was at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.

We brought along fixins for grilling burgers.

They gobbled ’em up in no time. The sun set just as we finished eating so we packed up and headed back home.
