The view from our campsite.

The Racetrack is out in the middle of nowhere. The roads are intended for 4×4 vehicles. Donald took that as a challenge:o). So we took to the dirt roads in our Honda Odyssey. We passed dirt bikers and people in Jeeps and big trucks. We got a few sidewards glances. We drove for about 3 hours. 1 on smooth roads and 2 off road.

We drove through the Panamint Mountain range.

Got to Teakettle Junction and turned left.

Warnings for those not used to the desert.

The Racetrack is a dry lake bed here in the desert in the Panamint Valley.

Come walk with me…
This rock formation is located in the center of the dry lake bed and they call it the Grandstand. Yes, those people on top are mine.

Pics from up top (taken by Jeshuah and Jeremiah…not me).

Fossils in a rock.

There are these large rocks on the ground that have slide marks after them (like a slug when he slides along). It has been a mystery for a long time as to how these rocks make these sliding marks. The lake bed is only 2 inches different in height from one side to the other so it isn’t likely that they are sliding all over the place…yet, they are sliding somehow.

Might as well do some ninja moves.

After much research, they mystery has been solved as to how these rock are sliding on the dry, flat lake bed.

The sun was setting. Donald decided to take a different route back to the campground. It saved us two hours of bumpy driving. This excursion took up most of the day. I think we were in the car for 6+ hours!! But it was totally worth it.
