Gulf Island National Seashore Florida

Friday, December 13, 2019

We went to turn in the Junior Ranger books before heading out this morning.

They each have quite a collection of badges and patches from the various parks we’ve visited!

Leaving Mississippi…

On to Florida…

It definitely did NOT look like the sunshine state today!!

Pulling in to the national park. We could barely see the water past the dunes.

We arrived at the other campground in the Gulf Island National Seashore which is located in Pensacola, FL. This one has Fort Pickens in it so we visited there.

See the two on top in the above photo?

You can see Jeshuah and Jeremiah at the end of the arches.

So on this trip we’ve seen where Geronimo was born and where he was buried. Now we have seen where he was held prisoner (he is in the bottom row, third in from the right).

I’m guessing you have noticed the ARCH theme in this fort…

I like to notice flowers/plants growing in unusual places.

Kyrah “locking” a heavy metal door.

Relics

These rails were used to move ammunition from storage rooms to elevators to the cannons.

You can see how cloudy it is….no way to even see the water that the fort was built to protect.

Come walk with me through a tunnel…

A ranger told us how the doctors used these tools…it was pretty gruesome.

The big hole in the fort in the above picture is explained below:

We watched Captain America, the First Avenger before heading to bed.
