Capital Reef National Park

August 22-23, 2020

Capital Reef NP. The name is actually two names put together.

CAPITAL because some of the white sandstone domed rock formations look like the capital building in Washington DC.

REEF because there is a huge rock ridge that is like a long spine is like a barrier reef running down the center. The early settlers had to go around it because there was no way to get over it.

Early Mormans came to inhabit this area. They planted fruit and nut trees and irrigated the land from the Fremont River. Read some history.

Amazing how the land sticks up at weird angles. My camera kept wanting to straighten them out.

Can you spot Audrah? (hint, she’s wearing a black shirt)

Look at the various types of rocks all layered here.

Sunday

Jed’s feeling a little better. The chickenpox are starting to clear up. He had a pretty bad case. He even had pox on his tonsils!

It was pretty windy.
