Westward Ho!

Saturday, April 27, 2019

After a quick breakfast of pancakes, a few jumps on the trampoline and hugs goodbye, we hit the road around 9am.

We took I-40 out of Oklahoma and into Texas. The scenery is nothing like we’re used to in the south.

You can just see on and on and on…

Thousands and thousands of windmills dot the landscape.

Audrah taking a little snooze.

Leaving Texas

Hello New Mexico!! We can add on a new state to our map.

Old Route 66 is still visible alongside the interstate at some points.

We took a small detour to drive through an old Rt66 town. There were a lot of nostalgic places along the main street.

There seemed to be a lot of old gas stations and motels. Must’ve been a good stopping place for travelers back in the day.

We even found Mater from the Cars movie!!

Back on the freeway again. Here was a huge cattle lot with thousands of cattle.

More big sky views.

We pulled off at another small town called Santa Rosa that has an artesian well called the Blue Hole. Many scuba divers use it. We stopped for a little swim. Notice the water temperature! A little chilly.

We got back on the road for another couple hours of driving.

Ohhh those clouds.

Pretty sunset

We overnighted in a Cracker Barrel parking lot in Albuquerque, NM. just minutes from the Petroglyph National Monument where we’ll be visiting tomorrow.

  1. So awesome! Yes one thing about the west I always loved was the clouds against the openness with the mountains in the background! So beautiful! Can’t wait to see the petroglyphs!!!!!!

  2. It wasn’t totally deserted. But there wasn’t a whole lot going on either.
