Today we went to do some caving.
Near our campground is a herd of bison.

There are caves in southern Utah in the Dixie National Forest called Mammoth Caves.
There are big holes in the ground left after hot lava poured through and left these tunnels.

These kids of mine are going to kill me…

Bats

Some places you had to slide over on your belly, pulling yourself over using your arms…in the mud.

Yep, our kids descended down that hole!!!

Descending into the earth!!!!

Going in….

And going in another!

You can see in this photo how the lava flowed through the ridge and pushed up the earth beneath.

Lots of lava stones

Up close lava rock.

This is the kind of cave exploring our kids prefer over the guided tours in caverns. They climbed through these for several hours.

We stopped for lunch in Duck Creek at a little restaurant.

We were told of an “ice” cave not far so we decided to go check it out. That’s what is so neat about this trip. When you have no “plan” you can take side trips wherever they come up.

It’s a small cavern but there was a little ice on the rock but they said it was very cold inside.

In the same area is a waterfall that comes straight out of the rocks. They say it is coming through a lava tube and is the headwaters of the Virgin River that flows through Zion (the one we walked through in The Narrows).
It was a little bit of a hike to get the to the falls.

Come walk with me…

We then went to the Lake that the water feeds in to. Navajo Lake.

Found some wild raspberries growing in this stump.

It was a very busy day. We headed back to the motor home to get supper and showers.
