Today we drove to New Mexico to visit the Aztec Ruins National Monument.
New Mexico, the landscape is just breath-taking!

The Aztec Ruins are located in Aztec NM.

The dwellings are incorrectly named as no Aztec people lived here. The Pueblo peoples lived here. You can read more here.






You can see here where timbers that once held the second story were.

This photo shows the floor of the second story as seen from the first floor.

Holes drilled through wood for a sampling help scientists determine the age of the wood, thus being able to date the dwellings. Dendrochronology is the term for this.
