Donald has for years wanted to see bristlecone pine trees. They are supposed to be some of the oldest trees alive on the planet. There is one called Methusela in a forest about 150 miles from our current campsite. So he and the boys took a three hour (one-way) trip to see if they could find it.
They went to the Inyo National Forest on the Methusela trail. They could see Mt. Whitney (highest elevation in the lower 48 states).
From WIKI:
Methuselah is a 4,851-year-old Great Basin bristlecone pine tree growing high in the White Mountains of Inyo County in eastern California. It is recognized as the tree with the greatest confirmed age in the world.

They don’t tell you which tree is the oldest tree is, just that it is on this 4.5 mile loop trail. There are at least 9 trees in there that are over 4,000 years old.

Wow! Just wow!
